Electronic Band-Aids

Electronic band-aids are, unfortunately, a fact of life. This happens when IT systems fail, and communication does not bring the problem to management’s attention. People begin to work around the problem and try to solve it on their own. They create spreadsheets of information that they need, and slowly, but surely, the word gets around that somebody has that report on their notebook computer. However, what happens when that person isn’t in the office one day? Maybe they get hit by a car. What do you do then?
