The Socratic Method
One of the most popular education and problem resolution methods in the world is the Socratic method. Socrates, of course, goes all the way back to Greek times and was ultimately jailed and put to death. Greece felt that he was corrupting the youth of the time. I guess that should tell you about how even people in that time viewed education, and not much has changed. Education is considered dangerous in many places in the world because dictators and leaders do not want free thinkers.
